Terms

Terms and conditions

Last updated: 4 October 2026

These terms apply to your use of the Dialog service (the apps and the servers we operate). By using Dialog you agree to them. Your data is covered separately by the privacy policy.

1. Who provides the service

The service is provided by Dialog. Contact: [email protected] or the user @dialog in Dialog.

2. Your account

  • You must be at least 16 years old.
  • Your account is identified by a random number and protected by your password. The 24-word recovery phrase is the only way to recover your account if you lose your password or all your devices.
  • We have no copy of your keys, so we cannot reset your password or recover messages for you. You are responsible for keeping your password and phrase safe.
  • You are responsible for what happens in your account and on the devices linked to it.

3. What you must not do

  • Use Dialog for illegal activities, including fraud, scams, threats or harassment.
  • Send spam or unsolicited bulk messages, or create accounts automatically.
  • Share child sexual abuse material, terrorist content or malware.
  • Infringe the rights of others, including copyright and privacy.
  • Try to disrupt, overload or gain unauthorized access to Dialog's servers or other people's accounts.

4. Your content

Your messages and files remain yours. They are end-to-end encrypted, so we cannot read or review them. You are responsible for what you send. You only grant us the technical right to store temporarily and transmit the encrypted content so the service works.

5. Reports and action against abuse

You can block and report any account. Based on reports and on the technical data we hold (not message content, which we cannot see), we may limit or suspend accounts that break these terms or the law. When the law requires it, we may provide authorities with the data we hold, as described in the privacy policy.

6. The service

We work to keep Dialog running at all times, but the service is provided "as is", without a guarantee that it will always be available or free of errors. We may change, improve or discontinue features. For important changes we tell you in advance where possible.

7. Open source

The Dialog apps and server are open source software published under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0. The license applies to the code; these terms apply to the use of the service we operate. If you run your own Dialog server, you are responsible for it and for its users.

8. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect damages, loss of data or profit resulting from using or being unable to use the service, including from losing your password or recovery phrase. Nothing in these terms limits the rights the law gives you as a consumer.

9. Termination

You can stop using Dialog at any time and delete your account in the app. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by Romanian law. Disputes are settled by the competent courts in Romania, without affecting your right as a consumer to go to the courts of the country where you live.

11. Changes

We may update these terms. The new version is published on this page with its date. If the changes are important, we tell you in the app. If you keep using Dialog afterwards, you accept the new terms.
